Life Letter
Letters: Building Resilient Relationships That Touch The Heart.
15 November 2023Dear friend,
I'm here again oh, with my usual dose of life lessons and philosophies.
There's this statement I once read in a meme: "Until you affect the heart, do not expect from the hand."
Now, you might want to revisit that statement again.
"Until you affect the heart, do not expect from the hand."
You see, friend, many people live their lives in complete oblivion of this simple rule.
They want from others, but never give themselves.
Was it not John F. Kennedy that said: 'Do not ask what your country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your country'.
You see, friend, you must learn the act of Reciprocal Generosity.
Hold on…
Have you ever asked for a favour from someone and they declined only for you to get angry at them for not giving you?
You see, when you ask for a favor from someone, two things can only happen:
They either oblige
OR
They don't.
Either way, it can be explained by that simple rule with which I started this letter.
If they oblige to your request, whatever it is, congratulations! You've affected the heart.
If they don't, you still have work to do.
If you understand this simple rule, you'd get more from people than you actually do.
It's leverage! Use it to your advantage.
You don't just give and then expect that when you make a request, you'd also he given. Give what will affect their heart.
Make people indebted to you. The more people are indebted to you, the more power you get, the more favors you seal.
Give what will make them stay indebted to you.
If you understand this, you'd understand why certain politicians do what they want and get away with it.
They've touched lives.
And, no! People are not clingy with their help! Don't let anyone deceive you. No matter how tough the economy gets, people will still give to those who have the greatest impact.
People will only give to you if you've made an impact on their hearts.
There are many ways you can do that. Look for what makes them tick.
Your father will only pay your school fee if he's convinced that you'd make good use of the opportunity he gave you to do to school, else, he might donate the money to charity.
Your employee will only increase your salary if you convince them that you deserve better pay, and it's not by word of mouth, persuasive writing, or your portfolio.
A VC will only invest in your business if you convince them that it can deliver the ROI they seek within the timeframe they plan for.
Stop grumbling that people aren't helping you. You haven't affected their hearts enough.
No man is stingy! Understand this and stay powerful!
Law: Out of the Indebtedness of the Heart, the hand opens.
