Letters: A Dynamic Pyramid

Dear friend,

Firstly, I apologize for sending this on Saturday when I was supposed to have sent it on Wednesday, as I do. 

I actually did send it on Wednesday, but I experienced a glitch that I have been working to resolve. If you had been viewing my WhatsApp status, you'd know what I am talking about.

Alright....

I once stumbled upon a tweet from Twitter; of course, it's now called X.

Here's an excerpt from the tweet; I can't detail the entire tweet except for this, which caught my attention and has stuck in my mind because of what I'm about to tell you.

...It's lonely at the top and saturated at the bottom.

The poster did mention something like those interested in learning a skill being crowded…

Well, stay with me. Don't go anywhere. 

'It is lonely at the top and saturated at the bottom.'

For context, life, my friend, can be compared to many things, but I want you to see it as a pyramid. 

Have you seen a pyramid? What does it look like? A cone, right? The bottom is wide, and as it goes up, it gets thinner and smaller until it reaches the tip! Hmm…

That's it! Who sang that song again? Asake. 

What was he thinking when he sang that song? 

It's a truism. Life is but a pyramid. 

The 80/20 rule.

The masses outnumber the elites (they're called masses for a reason)...

In every setting in life, those at the top will always be FEW! Those below will be in MULTITUDES!

What does that indicate? 

There'd always be poor people, and they'd be in the multitude, and the elite? Few in number, sparse.

Why is it so? I'd leave you to figure it out, or perhaps, in a later letter, I'd write on it.

Look around you; there are many people who want to learn skills.

AI came, and thousands flocked to it. Thousands bought courses on AI. How many of them actually achieved proficiency? Few… Sha, it's technically impossible to become proficient in a field like AI. 

Every year, hundreds of thousands, if not millions, seek admission to tertiary institutions; the same goes for those who graduate. How many become successful as a result of the school? Few.

You see them everywhere! Affiliate Marketing, Real Estate, Blogging, Writing, Graphic Design, Coding, Cybersecurity, AI, and every other skill. 

They flock into these skills, but very few become experts.

Why? It's lonely at the top!

It was meant to be lonely at the top! 

Listen, dear friend, if you want to be successful, brace yourself; you'd be lonely. 

You'd lose friends, family. You'd be less available. You may lose your mind if you're not careful!

Success will take you away from the multitude; it's very cold, and the brave survive. If it were to be easy, everyone would be successful.

But that is leverage! Yeah, that's leverage for you, my friend.

Don't be discouraged when you see thousands of people doing the same thing that you do.

You want to be a graphic designer, and you see thousands of people calling themselves graphic designers or learning graphic design; don't be discouraged. It's leverage!

Only a few will actually be the pros. Aim for proficiency! 

3k people buy a course, and you are afraid because, to you, they're too many. It's a lie! 

Aim for the top! That's where the success is! That's where the money is!

Back to my 80/20.

It's actually called the Pareto Principle, and it's not very stable, but it's never a 50/50

80 percent of everything is caused/acquired by 20 percent of the people. 

…80 percent of the result is because of 20 percent of effort…

80 percent of the money in any skill is made by 20 percent of individuals in that skill. 

Aim to be in the top 20%, then get to the top 10, then the top 5, and finally the top 1%... If you're tough enough.

The toughness and multitude of mediocre ones are your leverage! Use it!

It's actually lonely at the top.
